    The Role of Collaborative Governance in Blockchain-Enabled Supply Chains: A Proposed Framework

    The blockchain age is dawning. Firms large and small are teaming up with partners and solution providers to deploy blockchain, especially in supply chains, often called the “sleeping giant” use case. But blockchain is still new, and despite early successes in simulated environments, how companies need to collaborate in a blockchain world is unclear. To help close the blockchain collaboration research gap, this design science study explores the technological and ecosystem business decisions required to deploy an interoperable blockchain solution. The research partially builds a supply chain artifact, and the challenges experienced by the design team prompts further investigation with twenty blockchain experts. With the discovery that effective and collaborative governance is a key mechanism to remove obstacles in blockchain deployment, the study concludes with a collaborative governance model. Inspired by public policy makers, the framework includes technological rules to assist practitioners as they collaborate in a blockchain world

    Hot or Cold . . . How Ready are Third Party Logistics Cold Storage Companies to Implement Blockchain?

    The espoused benefits of the transformative blockchain technology appear to be the perfect solution for third party logistics cold storage companies who are facing a myriad of pressing organizational and industry issues. A critical component for successful implementation is organizational readiness. Positive (negative) states of readiness lead to more (less) successful implementation. A multi-case study of three 3rd party cold storage supply chain companies varied by size examine what factors impact their readiness for blockchain, and to what extent size may impact their preparedness. Results show that the small and medium companies have a relatively low level of readiness to implement blockchain. Due to its robust change management structure, the large company was best positioned to adopt blockchain. We conclude with a discussion of coopetition, the need to collaborate in a blockchain world

    Making Memorial Student-Ready: Reflections on the First Year Success Experience

Teaching approaches, curriculum content and policy rationales are covered in a broad view of how and why students identified as least likely to succeed at university can be academically supported.     Facial recognition systems in policing and racial disparities in arrests

    This study examines the association between police facial recognition technology (FRT) deployment and racial differences in arrests across 1,136 U.S. cities in 2016. We estimated doubly robust propensity score models using data from the Bureau of Justice Statistics, FBI Uniform Crime Report, and the U.S. Census Bureau. Results show that agency FRT use contributes to greater racial disparity in arrests. This relationship was underpinned by statistically meaningful and positive FRT effects on Black arrest rates and negative effects on White rates. We also observed more sizeable and significant impacts for adult arrests, indicating that FRT’s association with adult rates primarily drives the overall disparity finding. Results suggest a need for civic leaders to scrutinize the relative contributions of structural factors, agency policies, and government directives to officer decision-making before widely deploying FRT in jurisdictions. For agencies currently using this technology, it would imply the need for policies and supervision that guide, and in some cases restrict, officer discretion in FRT-assisted contexts
